10 years ago, singer Mandy Harvey lost her hearing due to a connective tissue disorder. “Basically, I got sick and my nerves deteriorated,” she said.
At the time, Mandy was 18 years old, and singing was her biggest passion in life. She was left not only completely deaf, but totally devastated. “I left music after I lost my hearing,” she said. But Mandy didn’t stay down forever. “Then [I] figured out how to get back into singing with muscle memory using visual tuners and trusting my pitch.”
Now 29, Mandy has beaten all odds and become a singer/songwriter!
In the video below, Mandy proves that she isn’t just “good for being deaf,” she has a truly powerful voice and unbelievable songwriting skills. She showed off these skills to the world one of the most memorable America’s Got Talent auditions ever.
Mandy auditioned with an original song of hers, “Try,” and it left the judges, audience, and world amazed.
“I mean I’ve done this a long time,” said Simon after her song. “That was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen and heard.”
But the best part has to be what came just after Mandy’s audition…
